Two Mile Radius

Inspiration for Two Mile Radius

The idea for this project came from reading about Edward Weston, one of the great photographers of the 20th century.

In the beginning of his career, he ran a small photo studio and was mostly broke. With severe financial constraints, he photographed the things and people around him. These still life images of vegetables and hard utilitarian objects became some of the most iconic photographs of the 20th century.

Since I was unable to do the projects I wanted to do because of the same financial constraints I decided to work within a walkable distance (two miles in each direction) of my home. I walked the nearby streets at all times of the day, in all seasons. I would take photographs of homes and businesses and the changes that occurred. I would study the riders of the Los Angeles Metro Train station located within this two miles radius. The photographic possibilities began to expand.

This is an on-going project.

Thank you, Mr. Weston, for the inspiration.
